If you're struggling in your business right now it's time to take a look at something that most people don't...
And that's how you're taking care of yourself.
And before I lose you thinking I'm "one of those people" who's going to preach you should be eating healthy 24/7 and don't you dare touch that chocolate bar or ever drink a pop.
I'm not that girl.
You get one life.
You're allowed to indulge.
The problem my friend lies in overindulging.
In consistently eating like crap, not getting any exercise and the limiting beliefs affecting your success that are amplified by your health.
I was there.
Let's go back about 2 years ago. I had just had my son Tyler, I was starting a new business and still running my own business and was the only employee for both besides being a Mom of 5.
I had no time.
I wasn't sleeping.
And while I was making relatively good meals for the fam jam I wasn't eating them because I felt like I had to get right back to working.
So I'd grab a pop and some chips or a chocolate bar for supper.
I was skipping breakfast and lunch. And at some point before bed I'd make myself something quick to eat and then go to sleep.
I felt like crap.
No time to myself and I wasn't caring for myself.
My mindset was crap.
Thinking everyone else can do this business thing but me.
That it was easy for everyone else and they could be successful but I couldn't because I'm me.
I was also gaining weight like no tomorrow because I was basically addicted to pop and crap.
It wasn't until I went to my first wedding dress fitting 6 months before my wedding that I took a look in the mirror and went "What the hell happened to you?"
My dress didn't fit. It was too tight.
I used to be this happy girl who would tackle anything with a smile on her face.
I was the girl that everyone was always calling a twig and would say they were jealous because I never gained any weight.
I was the girl that didn't let the little things get to her.
And I lost her.
Standing there I was...
...not overweight- but the heaviest I'd ever been outside of being pregnant
...Upset that my gorgeous wedding dress that put a perma-smile on my face when I first tried it on before ordering didn't fit and my wedding was 6 months away
...Defeated and felt jaded
Something had to change.
I grabbed a gym membership and started going to classes.
Which started off ok, but with being a Mom of 5 kids my time to go got less and less as they got more involved in activities themselves.
I started hearing advertisements on the radio about an online gym basically where you can log on at anytime select which workout you want to do and just workout at home. They even had a 14 day free trial.
So I signed up, downloaded the app and the workouts to my phone and every day up until my wedding I committed to doing an hour workout plus 5km of walking with youngest in the stroller.
I also started following the meals plans that workouts had.
I started seeing my friend Kerri posting about some great nutritional foods that people were getting results with so I ordered some shakes, bars and healthy "chips" and before you knew it I was back on track.
She also added me to her Facebook group for support. So I basically had a coach.
My dress fit perfectly.
My mood was soooooo much better.
I felt alive again.
My business started to improve.
I started delegating others to take over tasks in my business so I could focus on the bigger things.
I was looking forward to things.
I had my drive back.
It even inspired me to sign up to take a Fitness & Nutrition Expert Course to become a certified personal training and nutrition expert to help others. #MultiPassionateEntrepreneur
I was getting back to being me.
Your mindset and health have a huge impact on the success of your business. Your success in general. They have an impact on your quality of life.
So if you're treating yourself like crap (eating poorly, not exercising, thinking poorly)...you're not going to get the results you're looking for in life.
Which leads me back to this post title. Healthy Mind. Healthy Body. Healthy Business.
So let's dive in to 3 areas that might be affecting your results right now. Nutrition, Fitness and Mindset.
LET'S TALK NUTRITION
1) Harvard found that your digestive tract produces 95% of your body's serotonin (a neurotransmitter A.K.A. chemical messenger for your brain).
Low serotonin levels have been linked to a sad depressed mood, low energy, negative thoughts, feeling tense and irritable and craving sweets.
So eating a diet rich in foods that help your body to produce serotonin is essential to keeping a positive mood.
2) We all know less processed sugar is better for you. But most of the time people are associating eating less sugar with preventing or getting rid of weight.
But did you know, that a diet consistently high in processed sugar will slow the brain down my hindering memory and learning?
Over time insulin may no longer affect brain cells which is important because insulin regulates how these cells store and use sugars.
3) Lack of vitamin D or too little vitamin D in your diet can lead to a fast cognitive decline which means you'll be at a higher risk of developing Alzheimer's and dementia.
4) Glucose is the body's main source of fuel, but the source of that fuel will affect how productive and attentive you'll be.
Cookies and oats both contain glucose but the glycemic index of oats is much lower so your brain can stay alert and attentive for longer.
The Glycemic Index (GI) is a relative ranking of carbohydrates in foods according to how they affect blood glucose levels.
Carbohydrates with a low glycemic index value (55 GI or less) are more slowly digested, absorbed and metabolized and cause a lower and slower rise in blood glucose and, therefore insulin levels.
So to sum it up, a consistently crappy diet will put you in a bad mood, prevent you from thinking clearly, mess with your ability to remember things and learn, put you at a higher risk for disease and affect how product and attentive you'll be...and these are just a few.
WHAT ABOUT FITNESS?
1) Studies on the psychological effects of exercise have found that regular physical activity can improve your mood, boost your self esteem, help you handle stress as well as help to reduce depression and anxiety.
There are also many, many, other health benefits to exercising regularly.
Regular exercise can help protect you from...
Heart Disease and Stroke
High Blood Pressure
Non Insulin-Dependent Diabetes
And so much more...
HOW'S YOUR MINDSET?
There will always be mixed opinions on this topic but your mindset...but my belief is your beliefs about life, business, money and more...will affect your success and quality of life.
These beliefs can come from growing up, past experiences, things we've been told and more.
Some beliefs can help you and others will limit you.
You can however work on changing those limiting beliefs. Telling a better story for yourself.
Improving your mindset though will be so much easier with a consistently healthy diet and exercise because as we've talked about...those two things will affect your mood and thinking.
